UPDATE FROM SDUSD - We received a district memo yesterday afternoon that no longer makes Category D a requirement for field trips.
Field Trip Chaperones in “Category B” Classification: Moving forward, non-driving field trip chaperones will be processed under our "Category B" volunteer classification, making it easier for parents and family members to participate in their child(ren)'s educational experiences.
LIVESCAN CATEGORY D WILL NO LONGER BE NEEDED FOR FIELDTRIPS.
We understand that many of you have already taken the additional step, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
This is good news for our families and students who will be going on field trips soon.

SDUSD Volunteer Policies and Procedures
Welcome...Let's Get You Started:
Volunteers must comply with the district's volunteer screening requirements.
Community members interested in volunteering should:
- Comply with appropriate volunteer screening requirements. (English) (Spanish)
- Complete and return a school volunteer application. (English) (Spanish)
- Read and acknowledge understanding of the Volunteer Code of Conduct: (English) (Spanish)
- Provide results of Tuberculin skin test.
Parent and community volunteers must complete a volunteer application and be cleared of tuberculosis (TB) before volunteering on our campus. According to state law, all staff and volunteers must have clearance from tuberculosis on record. The clearance is good for four years. Our school district does not provide TB tests and clearances. Volunteers must secure this clearance on their own and provide documentation to the main office. See below for additional screening requirements.
Parent and community volunteers MUST sign in at the office and pick up a volunteer or visitor badge before entering the school. All volunteers must sign out each day in the book provided in the office.
To protect the confidentiality of our students, the following jobs are not given to volunteers:
- Jobs that require access to office and student records.
- Jobs that reveal information about student progress.
- Jobs that take the student away from the supervision of a teacher.
There are many more opportunities for involvement and volunteering in our exciting Beekeeper Alliance. Put your talents into action with our families and community members who keep our school humming. Check-out their website to learn more https://www.birneybees.org/stay-connected.
Reminders:
No photos or videos during your volunteer time.
Use only staff/adult bathrooms.
You must be with school staff at , all times; never alone with a student under any circumstances.
