Amanda Hammond Williams, affectionately known as Ms. Amanda, has been at Birney Elementary since 2002. Ms. Amanda was born in the United Kingdom. She made San Diego her home where she raised a family, explores the outdoors, and enjoys the beautiful weather.
Ms. Amanda speaks both English and Spanish. She completed her BA in Spanish Literature at the University of California, Los Angeles, and graduate studies earning her a MPIA degree in Public Policy with a focus on Latin American studies at University of California, San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy.
Known as an experienced teacher and principal, she is recognized for excellence in staff development, educational leadership, leadership development, and strategic planning for school transformation. She led the Birney community to transform the school into a successful International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and under her leadership the school has been named a California Distinguished School in 2010 and 2019.
Whether online or in person, Ms. Amanda works to know, support and celebrate each child and staff member as an individual. She inspires the Birney learning community to develop lifelong learners with the skills, attitudes, and ability to make our world a better and more peaceful place to learn, play, and explore.
