Hello Birney families and friends,

I hope your weekend has been restful and that you are looking forward to our second week of hybrid learning, whether your child is remaining at home or is now coming to school.  One reminder is to make sure your student is bringing a towel or small blanket for the picnic areas - we have 3 picnic/play zones on the field and 1 more on the grassy area between the 1st and 2nd grade classrooms - students enjoy eating in a relaxed, casual atmosphere, but are probably most comfortable when they can cover thr ground with a towel or light, small blanket.

We are resuming our Specials Schedule this upcoming week, with just a couple of adjustments to accommodate the Phase 2 schedule with Fridays being such a short instructional time.  The adapted Specials schedule is as follows:

Monday morning 9:00-11:00- 1st grade
Monday afternoon 12:20-2:35 - 3rd grade

Tuesday morning 9:00-11:00 - Kindergarten
Tuesday afternoon 12:30-2:35 - 5th grade

Thursday morning 9:00-11:30 - 2nd grade
Thursday afternoon 12:30-2:35 - 4th grade

We anticipate a smooth transition to this new schedule but, as always, we will be prepared for surprises.  Our Art and Spanish teachers will be pushing into the stable group classrooms, observing all the health and safety guidelines for indoor instruction.  Our Garden and PE classes who are in-person will be going outside with Coach and Ms. Mindy.  We are referring at-home, online students to our BirneySpecials@home page on our website, where each Specials teacher has a dedicated page for online learning.  Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding the Phase 2 Specials rollout.

You may be wondering about the 6th hour, 2:35-3:35, which is proposed as a tutoring and enrichment time for those families requesting it.  Some teachers who have volunteered to tutor students will contact parents this week to reserve 1 or more days for tutoring. We are developing the overall schedule this week and will most likely be in contact the week ahead to schedule additional time on campus.  In the meantime, Prime Time and Say San Diego are gradually adding students to the roster as staffing and space permits - if you have a dire need, please do not hesitate to contact me so I can provide you with available options.

Thank you as always for your support,

Ms. Amanda
