Birney Buzz
Hello Birney families,
So good to hear from so many of you who sent in questions and comments. I put together answers to your questions and will continue to do so in this FAQ document, so you can bookmark it and refer back as needed. For those of you who need more formal pandemic-related school guidance, the CDPH 21-22 K-12 School Guidance Questions and Answers may be just what you are looking for. If you find you need wellness/mental health resources for your own family, the SDUSD Mental Health and Wellness Resource Guide is very informative (and do not despair, the kids will be back at school before you know it - you can do this! It's so close!).

For those of you not familiar with Birney I want to make sure I explain that this email, the Buzz from Birney, is the primary form of communication about what is happening at the school in general for parents. When students return, there will be a weekly paper newsletter they can bring home called the Birney Buzz which often includes things they want to know about. You will receive an emailed attachment of that as well, which is nice because you get the color version delivered to your email.
The thing about this communication is:  YOU HAVE TO READ IT!  So when you get a Buzz from Birney, take a couple of minutes to open it up and read it - then you'll know what is happening at the school.  This is especially important right now while the Delta variant is throwing a wrench on many of our best reopening plans. I may send more than one Buzz from Birney in a week - I do not wait till a particular day to send news, it may need to get to you right away, so please do all of us the favor of reading the emails sent from school.

For now, the reopening of school is definitely happening and we plan to make it safe and fun for all. Students and staff are required to be masked indoors, and may be masked outside (currently still optional). We will continue to wash hands, use sanitizer, and so on, but we will no longer be requiring collection of the health check paper screening at the entryways. We do ask you to continue to take temperatures at home and respond to the ClearPass screening at home, DAILY, we will send you a QR code to access Clearpass with full directions on how to do that once school starts.

Most importantly, you will need to keep your child at home if they are exhibiting symptoms that are also symptoms of COVID. In order for your child to return to school after being out sick they will need to show evidence of a negative COVID test result.  More details to come about this.

That's it for now, take care and stay tuned...
