Hello Birney families and friends, happy Friday, Birney Bees!
Today is a busy day at Birney because we have both kindergarten and 1st grade Distribution Day from 1-2 pm. While you are here getting your amazing school supplies stop by the PTA table for school spirit t-shirts and other merchandise, and check with Ms Bee to see if you got a special fall fundraiser prize. Ms. Bee will be at Birney from 12 - 2 pm handing out Gold Ninja Keychains to all those who send out 10 emails the first week! Check to see if your name is on the list! If it is there, stop by to pick up your keychain today! Pick up grab ‘n’ go meals with a little extra fresh produce for the weekend.
Do you want to keep about $107,000 of federal funding coming to your school? Birney is a at risk of losing our Title 1 status, which would mean losing about $100,000. Parents, please fill out the LCFF form! I checked this morning, only 57 OUT OF 540 STUDENTS have a completed LCFF form on file. The LCFF Form can be found in the PowerSchool Parent Portal (https://powerschool.sandi.net). You need a special password to access the parent portal which you get from me by simply replying to this email so I can verify that you are who you say you are! A job aid is available for parents to assist with entering information for the LCFF Form. The LCFF Form is available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese in the Parent Portal. You will need to have access to your PowerSchool Parent Portal, which you requested access to when you wanted to look at your report card from spring. PLEASE do fill it out, we count on hearing from every family to make sure we keep out Title One status which enables us to keep our English Learner and Reading Specialist support. Please do this for your child's school, it will make a world of difference for next year's funding.
Our first week of library book distribution was a huge hit. So, we are adding another grade, 4th, to the list. Birney 4th and 5th grade students! Watch this video Birney – search Destiny and place a hold on a book in DESTINY. “Curbside Checkout” is NOW offered to 4th and 5th grade, between the hours of 12-2pm on Wednesdays.
- Remember to choose a book at your appropriate reading level.
- Best practice is to choose a book to place on hold that is reflected in Destiny as “available.”
- If Ms. LeeAnn cannot find a book placed on hold (some books have legs and walk away) she will do her best to choose something comparable.
Birney PTA is launching the first of what we hope will be several special parent forums for building community, networking, exploring learning options and generally making friends. Our first meeting is aimed at our kindergarten parents. Click here for the invitation letter, Zoom link and other information.
FALL FUNDRAISER UPDATE – THE DRIVE-IN MOVIE LIST IS STILL GROWING!
There’s still time to shop www.boonsupply.com/355050 or to donate $275 to the foundation at http://friendsofalicebirney.org/one-time-donation/. The movie list contains both the students who sold 18+ items as well as students who received donations of $275. Several donors gave extra so we have 2 extra seats for the movie night that we will include in the raffle! Remember your child will get 1 raffle ticket for every 5 items sold! Tons of great prizes such a STEM Lego set, Spike Ball sets, EarPods, & more!
Next, every student should have a signed “Universal Form” on file with his/her school for the 2020-21 academic year. If you have not turned in yours, here is a fillable PDF form: English / Spanish Please print and sign the form and then either mail it back to your school or drop off the printed copy. We have received about 15% so far – please help us by doing your part!
