It’s simple, the more you read at home and in your neighborhood, the better you will be at reading and writing at school.

In addition to visiting the public library and reading books that you love, here are other things you can read at home and in your neighborhood:

  • Street signs

  • Signs and maps at parks, zoos, or museums

  • Magazines and pamphlets

  • Recipes

  • Instructions for games and electronics

  • Packaging

  • Articles on electronic devices

  • Lyrics for your favorite songs

  • Maps on navigation devices

  • Closed captions and subtitles on shows and movies

  • Check-out our Specials Websites (created for COVID but still so informative)

Keep a Writing Journal

  • Dear Diary
Jot down what you do every day or what you see on a special trip.
-Remember to date each time you write.
-You’ll love reading your diary when you are older or you can even keep it to share with your own children when you are older.

  • Waves of Ideas for journal writing
